birthdayed out.

ok, so it wasn't like this photo. this is a picture of me eating a burger at minetta tavern in 2010.

but the birthday girl consumed: a 1000-seed date and banana muffin, coffee, a raspberry-filled cupcake with passionfruit buttercream, a diet dr pepper (which tastes NOTHING like the real thing), a handful of fries, half a sandwich (that's all i packed; i knew what i was in for), a carrot, a handful of potato chips, a pint of stout, a burrito, and a negra modelo.

OH yes, i did. people just kept feeding me.

dubliners.

OMG. have i mentioned the demise of the dublin dr pepper? it's over. totally over. as in, it is no longer being manufactured. (although apparently there is a fight but i think it is pretty hard to beat coca cola.)

let's talk about a love. a soda love. made with imperial sugar. from sugar land, for christsakes. a delicious, delicious treat without the high-fructose corn syrup i detest. and now, it's over. oh my holy hell.

the drink-maker.

casey is making all the whisky drinks these days. we spent much of thanksgiving drinking a concoction of bulleit rye and dublin dr pepper, with a lime, in these incredible glasses at my parents' house. and last night, he made what i have dubbed "the gentle lumberjack:" bourbon, maple syrup, soda water, and lemon. a wintery cocktail for sure.

what happens when you stay with baby brother for thanksgiving? a six-pack of imperial sugar dr pepper in glass bottles. always the best; i think i drank three during my visit.
*my pet monster obviously likes it, too.

remedied.

have i mentioned that i love remedy quarterly? and that i backed them on kickstarter?

well, remedy quarterly is this awesome little magazine put together by some brooklynites and contains food stories and remedies of sorts. today, i learned on twitter that the magazine was seeking remedies for hangovers, so i submitted my favorite: a can of dr pepper and potato chips. i will continue to believe that this is the ideal remedy for everyone, not just me.

thanks, tina, for the gift i received at thanksgiving. an ice-cold glass bottle full of dr pepper made with pure cane sugar from sugar land, texas. enough said.

the stars at night are big and bright.

a short story. told in parts.

i went to austin last weekend to hang out with blake and eat tacos. and go swimming. and do things related to the johnson adminstration.

i rode the train to jfk and took this picture. it's around 7am. the plants have taken over the abandoned train track; the graffiti includes the tag, "fuck you toys." i have no idea what that means.
jet blue for the second time ever. free wi-fi in the jet blue terminal. seltzer and blue potato chips on the plane.
i await blake's arrival to the smallest international airport i have ever been inside. all of the retail establishments are austin-related. EVERYTHING. no starbucks.
greeted with an imperial sugar dr. pepper. blake is so awesome. these are hard to come by.

the promise.

blake got his coupon from dr pepper. i did not.

i'm a pepper.

for the last 17 years, guns n' roses have been working on their album, "chinese democracy." no one thought they would ever finish it, especially not dr pepper. it seems as though the band took so long to make the album that, in march, dr pepper announced it would give a free dr pepper to EVERYONE IN AMERICA if they finished and released the album this year.

and they did it.
and dr pepper is making good on their promise. today only.

go to the dr pepper website, and fill out the form. they will send you a coupon and you get a free bottle of soda (though i think it is better in a can). unfortunately, it seems as though many people are doing it, because my page has been trying to complete the form for hours. yes, i have tried more than once. and tried the hotline.

but, it's worth a shot, even if it is made with high fructose corn syrup. it's so good. i am hoping for one with imperial sugar when i am in texas next week.
