they might be giants has a new video, and it stars singing beef with dancing carrots and broccoli.

minetta tavern.

i knew about the black label burger at minetta tavern months and months ago. i had heard some pretty awesome things. i have been a vegetarian for over 18 years.

the black label burger is a 1/2 pound mix of prime dry-aged ribeye, brisket, and skirt steak. the exact combination is a closely-guarded secret. it comes on a brioche-style bun with caramelized onions. it needs nothing else. no condiments, no other vegetables.

so i feel like leaving new york is like dying, like there are things i have to do before i go. eating this burger is one of those things. and my friends got really excited about the prospects of it all.

we made a plan. and went last night. and i ordered a drink called the josephine, which had an entire apricot in it. and then we ate. appetizers to start and then half of a burger.

it was buttery, and a bit bloody, and tasty. decadent and spectacular.

i might never be able to eat beef again. it all seems to get recalled. blech.

A deadly outbreak of E. coli has been traced to a large producer of ground beef that stopped testing its ingredients years ago under pressure from beef suppliers. A facility in Ashville, N.Y., owned by the company, AFA Foods, recalled more than 500,000 pounds of ground beef on Oct. 31 after it was linked to an outbreak that has killed two people and sickened an estimated 500 others.

oh, new york, i wanted to believe you are better than other states.

can someone explain why this keeps happening? why would we buy beef from a corporation that refuses independent testing?

WASHINGTON, June 28, 2009 - JBS Swift Beef Company, a Greeley, Colo., establishment is voluntarily expanding its June 24 recall to include approximately 380,000 pounds of assorted beef primal products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. This recall release is being reissued to expand the June 24 recall to include approximately 380,000 pounds of assorted beef primal products.
